I believe this photo was at Convair, San Diego in early 1970s, loading the Overwing barrel section of the DC-10 onto a Guppy for transort to Douglas Arcraft in Long Beach because the white structure in RH portion of pic does not appear to me to be a Douglas building. The barrels were 22′ dia and the green coating was placed to keep skins from getting scratched during assy. It was later removed and left a shiny skin which was painted. I used to watch the Guppy unload during lunch breaks outside Bldg 36 and I think they delivered twice/day. If not for the Guppy, shipments would have to be made by barge and then sections would have to be transported from the harbor to the factory on surface streets, an expensive operation.
